Summary

Kent's cavern. Smerdon's passage. Large number of bones and more than 700 teeth found, and three limpet shells, charcoal and four good flint flakes. A further 2200 teeth found. Thirteen flint and chert flakes and chips found in the second reach of the passage. All white except one, which is a well-designed but roughly-finished lanceolate implement. A lance-shaped bone tool also found, flat on one face and uniformly convex on the other, reduced to a thin edge all round the margin except at the butt end, where it was cut off abruptly, and tapering gradually to a rounded point. An amber bead found in the cave earth with the usual mammalian remains. Ellipsoidal in form. Cylindrical perforation at its centre.
