Summary

Mill pool, now called pool meadow, was on the site of st michael's church. Union street was constructed through it in 1831. The remains of the mill were found in 1964 during excavations for the international stores on the north side of union street. One complete millstone and half of the second had done duty as a step at the now demolished union hotel. They were of dartmoor granite. The lord's mill is mentioned indirectly in an escheat of 1279. It was a water and corn mill.
