In Lower Brook Street, wells have been sunk twelve feet through pipeclay and rushes to gravel.
Exeter Archaeology, 2004, Archaeological Assessment of Proposed Fire Station on Land off the A379 Teignmouth, Devon (Report - Assessment). SDV361709.
Wells in the area of Lower Brook Street and Station Road are said to have been sunk 4m through what was described as 'pipeclay' (unlikely to be so) and rushes to gravel.
