Cropmark ditches of potential prehistoric date are visible on oblique aerial photographs of 1970, to the southwest of Exwell Barton. The cropmarks are sited on gently northeast sloping ground overlooking the Exe Estuary, within an area characterised by prehistoric remains. The cropmark features include two possible adjacent ring ditches. The eastern of the two features is composed of two curvilinear ditch segments which form a broadly sub-oval shape and which measures approximately 10m in width. The ring ditch has been truncated away at its northern extent by a former, now removed, roadway which is also visible as a cropmark feature. Indeed, the oval shaped enclosure alluded to in this record and measuring approximately 80m in length likely relates to the cropmarks of this former roadway. Approximately 17m to the west is a more diffuse curvilinear cropmark of a second possible ring ditch of which only the eastern extent is visible, the western extent being partly obscured by the site of a dwelling and hedge line. The cropmark features were not visible on other aerial photographs or digital images made available to the survey.
