The field name suggests the former presence of a structure associated with the manufacture of clay pipes. No structure is depicted on the 1838 Tithe Map but the industry may have ceased in Chudleigh Knighton by this time. Access to the field was along Pipehouse Lane to the south of the Chudleigh Bypass. The field was recently used as allotments.
