Summary

Road barrier of concrete blocks on the GHQ line anti-tank ditch.

Full description

The anti-tank ditch of the GHQ Line came directly from a position a few yards N of the Railway Barrier at TQ 7726 9458 <SMR 20143> to cross Hawk Hill at TQ 7754 9489. Contemporary records state, "Road barrier, Road A130, Battlesbridge. Map ref. 220136". <Mil. Ed.>. The road barrier can be seen on an aerial photograph taken in 1946. There is one concrete block on the W side of the road and two on the E, although one of these had probably been moved from an in line position. Approx. 40 yards along Hawk Hill to the SE is one more block on the W side. Originally, there was probably another block on the E side and the two of them may have acted as a holding point for traffic before the main barrier was reached. <1> <2>
