Summary
Railway Barrier
Full description
The anti-tank ditch of the GHQ Line crossed the railway at this point and an aerial photograph taken in 1946 shows eight concrete blocks. Four are on the S side angled at 45 degrees from the railway to connect up with the ditch coming from the pillbox at TQ 7712 9429 <SMR 20141> and four are on the N side angled at 90 degrees from the railway to connect up with the N ditch which went NW for a few yards before turning NE towards Hawk Hill <SMR 20147>. It is probable that the line itself could be blocked by a moveable cable between the two inside blocks. <1>
Nothing now remains and the A130 road way passes the site immediately on its E side.
