Summary
Road Barrier (destroyed).
Full description
Contemporary records state, “Road Block – concrete pimples in garden. Blacksmiths Cottage, Eves Corner” and “Road Barrier. Road No. A.414, Bakers Arms. Map ref. 231237”. (Mil. Ed.) <1>
“Blacksmiths Cottage” still stands on the N side of the A414, 100 yards to the E of Eves Corner. “The Bakers Arms” public house is a few yards to the E on the same side of the road. An aerial photograph taken in May 1946 clearly shows a triple-row band of pimples in the front garden of the “Blacksmiths Cottage” (at least seven can be seen). These would have formed the roadside element of a road barrier across the A414 at this point. <2>
Nothing of the pimples or the carriageway element of the barrier now survives.
