Road Barrier (destroyed)

Full description

Contemporary records state, “Road Barrier. Road No. N. 805, Hopping Jack’s Lane. Map ref. 231238”. (Mil. Ed.) <1>

An aerial photograph taken in May 1946 shows a house standing on an area of land to the N of Hopping Jacks Lane. Leading from the SE corner of the house to the roadway is a triple row of anti-tank pimples. These would have been the roadside element of an anti-tank barrier across the lane at the above NGR. The house no longer survives and a surgery has been built on the land a few yards to the NW of the original house site. <2>.

Nothing of the pimples or the road barrier now survives.
