Summary
Road Barrier (destroyed)
Full description
Contemporary records state, “3 Concrete Blocks. Wickford Road. Map ref. 175145”. (Mil. Ed.) <1>
Concrete blocks were typically used as the roadside element of road barriers. From the “Wickford Road” reference and the Military Grid Reference it is apparent that this barrier cut Castledon Road S of its junction with School Road. Nothing significant can be seen on 1960 aerial photographs but at that time it is clear that hedges ran close to the road, restricting the passage of vehicles. Houses now stand on the W side of the road, with large front gardens and it is difficult to deduce exactly where the barrier might have stood. However, nothing now remains.
