Full description

The barrier of defences around the wartime Widford Roundabout continued from the road barrier across Princes Road (SMR 20916) southwestwards to Wood Street. This stretch, across open ground, can be clearly seen on an aerial photograph taken in June 1946. Around 90 anti-tank pimples can be counted, in four rows in a straight band from the Princes Road barrier to the Wood Street barrier. <1> Contemporary records state, “92 Concrete Pimples on spare land and 3 Pimples within precincts of Depot. The junction of Princes Ave (sic), and Wood St, mainly comprising spare land adj: the Petrol Storage Dept. Map ref. 108/146241”. (Mil. Ed.) <2>

The site of these pimples now lies where an apartment block, Grange Court, stands.
