Summary
Ammunition Shelter (destroyed)
Full description
Contemporary records state, “Storehouse for Explosives. Sports Ground, Waterhouse Lane. Map ref. 145250”. (Mil. Ed.) <1>
The sports ground can be clearly seen on a June 1946 aerial photograph, on the E side of Waterhouse Lane. Corresponding to the Military Grid Reference, a small building can be made out in the NE corner of the field. It is not, however, clear enough to be discernible as, typically, a small Nissen hut. This is the type for others in the area. <2>
This part of Chelmsford has changed considerably since World War Two and is now light industry and business parks.
<1> unknown, 1968, War Time Contraventions 1968, Chelmsford (LIST). SEX31436.
<2> RAF, 1946, 106G-UK 1565-4416, June 1946 (AP). SEX65517.
