Summary
Alan-Williams Turret (destroyed)
Full description
Contemporary record state, “Spigot mortar; 4 Defence posts; A.L. Turret; Trenches. Regina Nursery, Victoria Road, Map ref. 167259”. (Mil. Ed.) <1>
The “A.L. Turret” is almost certainly a misprinted abbreviation for an Alan-Williams turret – a steel cupola set into the ground, manned by two men with a machine-gun.
It can be seen from a 1939 O.S. map that the nurseries here lay behind the houses to the E of Regina Road – an area which is re-developed to light industry.
<1> unknown, 1968, War Time Contraventions 1968, Chelmsford (LIST). SEX31436.
