Summary

Road Barrier (destroyed), Melbourne Park, Chelmsford

Full description

Contemporary records state, “4 concrete blocks, 5 sockets. Melbourne Farm. Map ref. 133269”. (Mil. Ed.) <1>

Melbourne Farm, and Park, lay to the E of Chignall Road, N of the present Melbourne Avenue. Although nothing significant can be seen in 1940’s aerial photographs it is clear that there must have been a road barrier across Chignall Road by Melbourne Farm. Nothing of such a defence work now survives as the area has been re-developed to housing.
