Full description
Contemporary records state, “Storehouse for explosives. Site No. 1., Melbourne Park Estate”. <1> Melbourne Farm, and Park, lay to the E of Chignall Road, N of the present Melbourne Avenue. A “storehouse for explosives” or ammunition shelter, would have held arms and ammunition for the local Home Guard manning the road barrier (and possibly a spigot mortar) nearby (see SMR 20969). Nothing now survives as the are has been re-developed to housing.
