Full description
Contemporary records state, “1 Pill box. South east corner of Hall field, Horndon Road. Map ref. 099010.” (Mil. Ed.) <1> The road between Orsett and Horndon on the Hill is now called Orsett Road and the pillbox still stands on the N side of the road directly alongside the garden of Fruit Farm Cottages. From here, it could cover the approach from the E, a long straight road, and countryside down a steep hill to the W. It is an FW3/22 type, built of concrete with the larger design of loopholes. The entrance is on the NW face. Three photos of site. <2>
