Full description
Part of the western section of the World War II anti-tank ditch that ran through Hertfordshire as part of the Outer London Defence Ring <1>, still partly extant in APs taken by the RAF in 1946 <1>. Portions are still visible as cropmarks <2>.
See also [10232, 10233, 18018]. The course of the ditch was heavily augmented by pillboxes, seemingly at every directional change. The course of the Defence Ring evidently also made use of the river Colne to form a natural barrier along parts of this stretch.
