Full description

The manor of Rennesley is first documented in a mid 13th century grant <2>. The small wooded enclosure on the north of the moated mound [46] is called Rennesley Gardens and in the 14th century the place was known as the manor of Rennesley <1>.
The association of the wood, already shown on the 1880 OS map <3> as Rennesley Garden Wood, and the site of a medieval manor house has not been established. There are said to earthworks within the Wood (which is designated ancient woodland), but see also [46], south of the Wood, for more earthworks. These may all or in part represent post-medieval designed gardens which could have included [46].
