Full description
The manor of Mathams was the holding of a family of that name who had lands in Sawbridgeworth at an early date. In the 17th century the manor descended with Sayesbury and Pishobury manors <1>. The site of Mathams manor house is marked by a moat [2000]. Within the enclosure is building rubble <2>; this is presumably post-medieval pegtile or similar material.
