Full description

Standing at the railway line level crossing in Slipe Lane, an unusually tall brick & concrete, hexagonal pillbox, purpose-built to cover the marshes to the E & the railway line from the N. It has 8' sides, is 11' high & has a doorway set 3'6" from the ground. The outer brickwork has fallen off the E corner. Anti-tank blocks <1> cover the approaches to the level crossing, nine to the E & seven to the W of the railway, the latter in the back garden of the crossing keeper's house <2>.
