Monument Types

  • MANOR HOUSE (Medieval - 1066 AD to 1500 AD)

Full description

It is assumed that the manor acquired its name from the family of De la Mare, who held it in the early 14C; <1> gives no earlier documentation. In 1608 it came to the Garrard family, who built Lamer House [9519]. It is not known whether the 17C house was built on the same site as the medieval house.

See [9519] for the post-medieval house, and [15185] (post-medieval timber farm buildings).
