Summary

Possible Barrow north of Belvoir Road

Grid Reference:SK 863 330
Map Sheet:SK83SE
Parish:DENTON, SOUTH KESTEVEN, LINCOLNSHIRE

Full description

Possible degraded barrow here.{1}

'Tumuli' at Denton. {2}

A large rectangular platform orientated north by north west to south by south east, average height 1m. Top tree planted and quite flat with slightly higher terrace at the northern end. The situation, in the corner of a cornfield, is not prominent. The soil is sandy clay. The dimensions suggest a possible long barrow, but classification as an antiquity at all must be very doubtful. Orientation is not unusual, absence of flanking ditches is common. Geological position favours classification. Survey 1: 2500. {3}

A cropmark mound was recorded from aerial photographs by the National Mapping Programme. {4}
