Long Bennington is first documented in the Domesday Book, known at that time as Beninctun, or Beningtone, meaning 'the farmstead, village associated with or called after Be(o)nna'. A church and four mills are mentioned. It is further documented throughout the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. {4}{5}{6}
