Full description

Church dating from the 12th to 13th century and restored in 1863. It still retains a good Early English north arcade. Inside the church on either side of the chancel stands a richly decorated cross, now in two pieces. As there is little weathering on the stone, it has been suggested that the cross came from the Benedictine priory (PRN 43553). {1}{2}{3}{4}

The cross is a most rare and interesting cross shaft of the Anglo Saxon type, but of c.1200. It is of two pieces, both tapering from about 14.5 inches to about 12 inches, both with a border of nailhead. On one side are long, course, still Norman looking trails, on the other finer side is also still Norman foliage, but above it is a depiction of the crucifixion in small figures, and Christ's feet nailed with one nail, which is Gothic and a feature unknown before the early 13th century. {5}

A parish church dating from c.1200 which has evidence of 15th century features. It underwent restoration by Ewan Christian in 1863.
