Oxcombe is mentioned as early as 1086. {1}
The earthworks show clearly on aerial photographs and cover a much larger area than the present village. These features have been recorded by the National Mapping Programme. {2}{3}{4}
There is some ridge and furrow visible on digital aerial photographs to the east of Intake Plantation with amorphous earthworks to the south of this woodland which might be related to the village field system. {5}
