Summary
The Hospital of St Mary Magdalene, Partney that became a monastic cell of Bardney Abbey.
Parish: | PARTNEY, EAST LINDSEY, LINCOLNSHIRE |
---|
Full description
The Hospital of St Mary Magdalene was built shortly after 1115 and dissolved before 1318. It is not clear whether it was for the sick or for the aged poor. By the 14th century it had become a cell of Bardney Abbey and ceased being a hospital. It may have stood close to ‘Monks Field’ but there is no evidence other than the field name. A chapel that may be the site of the Bardney abbey cell and perhaps also the site of the hospital was found to the west during the building of Partney bypass (see PRN44824). {1}{2}{3}{4}
