Full description

Market Rasen railway station is a yellow brick structure with its main buildings on the north-west side of the tracks. It once had an overall roof but it was removed pre-1965. At that time the station had a water tower, two water cranes, yard crane, sidings, signal box and gas lights which were all removed by 1990. The building is symmetrical with a central projecting bay of red brick with a stone door surround that is flanked by two stone pilasters on each side. There are five bays on each side of the red brick panels surrounded by yellow pilasters. It has segmented arched balanced sash windows with stone surrounds. It also has five chimney stacks, each with two pots. It has a slate roof, the southern end of which is now concrete tiles. There is a stone plinth at the base of the brick work, and a stone string course at the base of the windows. All the brick work is Flemish bond. {1}
