Full description

63685
A church is mentioned in the Domesday Book at Burgh. It is thought that this may be the church of St Peter, which was recorded in Kirkby (Burgh seems to have become part of Kirkby in the latter part of the medieval period). In the appropriation of Sempringham Abbey in 1209, St Peter's remained a vicarage until united to the rectory of St Denis in 1593. The church was in ruins by the end of the century. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
Three stone slabs, one with mouldings, were seen in a ditch about 200m to the west of the church site and it is possible that these slabs are from the fabric of the demolished church. {6}
