Summary

Pierce's map of 1632 appears to locate the church to the north of Lower Priory Street. Immediately to the south a small square area may indicate the cloisters.

Full description

{1}Manuscript history of Northampton written in early C18th records church in the 'Abbey of St Andrew's ground';

{3}The church was situated between Brook Street and Lower Priory Street;

{5}There was also buried under a flat stone in the quier the archbishop of Treves who died while attending council at Pipewell;

{7}The church was probably located around Lower Priory Street;

{4}Simon the First Earl of Northampton confirmed to the monks the possession of their own church; David brother of King of Scotland & Simon Third Earl of Northampton were buried in the priory church; in 1223-4 Henry III issued order for prior of St Andrew to be allowed timber for beams to build the tower of his church; report of part of tower being demolished by great storm in 1237;

{8}During Thomas Becket's trial at Northampton Castle archbishop at St Andrew's & reported as retiring to church at St Andrew's to celebrate mass; also that Becket slept night in church in fear of his life before fleeing to France;

{10} Mynard identifies structure which may form part of the cloisters
