Full description

Laxton, open field system still in use. (1)
See APs for general views of village and fields, showing traces of ridge and furrow. (2) (3)
At Laxton vicarage, the N-S ditch (found in excavation) could be a medieval property boundary forgotten by 1635, possibly one of a series dividing the area S of Main Street into narrow crofts similar to those to the N . This may indicate that the planned layout in this area faded from use sufficiently early to be largely absent by the time of the earliest surviving map of 1635. (4)
See articles in Parish file. Grid ref general.
