Full description
The Bethel family resided at Alne for some centuries. Their hall appears to have been moated round, but half has now been filled up, and that remaining forms the boundary of the vicarage gardens. The vicarage is a small building near the church - now a farm house.
The remains of the moat have been further reduced on the east side by housing development, so that the fragment of counterscarp in the south which is all that survivies is no longer representative (1).
