Full description
Approximate location of a Roman votive deposit consisting of a miniature lead bowl set on a rimmed base, containing an unidentified bronze cast object and two base metal coins. It was found by a metal detector in 2018 in a field between the village of Snape and Bedale. The deposit can be dated to a terminus post quem of AD 383, based on one of the coins it contained which was a bronze of Gratian identified as RIC Lugdunum 30a (1.68g, dated 9 August 378 - 25 August 383) The other coin was a barbarous radiate immitating an issue of Gallienus minted circa AD 257-258. The bronze object was thought to be a crude figurine, it is flat on one side with two incised depressions near the centre. The lead bowl measures 28mm diameter and weights 17.65g. (SeptimusT)
