TRACES OF THE METALLING OF THE ROMAN ROAD KNOWN AS THE MALTON STREET ARE SAID TO BE VISIBLE IN THE FOUR NARROW FIELDS AT THE KNOLLS RUNNING PARALLEL TO THE PRESENT MALTON-HOVINGHAM ROAD. AN AIRPHOTOGRAPH (AM NO.3123 1946) REVEALS THIS LINE. Form: Soilmark (04/1946)
