Summary
A birch and oak stake revetment was found during an archaeological evaluation of Fobney Street in Reading.

Description
Seven radically-split post, faces averaging 0.08-0.10m, lengths between 1.50-2m, set into a wide construction trench backfilled with large quarried chalk blocks. On most of the stakes the bark remains intact <1>. Identical radiocarbon dates of AD 1430-1630 were obtained from an oak post 3006 (Har-8555; 400 ±70 BP and a beech post 3015 (Har-8557; 400±70 BP) <2>.
