Summary

The bailey wall dated c.1180, also formed the outer wall of the military knights lodgings.

Description

The bailey wall dated c.1180, also formed the outer wall of the military knights lodgings. It was between 3-4m thick at its base and 2m thick to its top. It was recorded during renovation works in 1990. It was not until the 19th century that windows were forced through it for the lodgings <1>.
