CMHTS Comment:- Large sandstone blocks are found all over the town sometimes dated to the Roman, sometimes the medieval period. The real significance of this is not understood as yet <2>
CMHTS Report <3>
Suggested as related to the medieval defences (PRN 05867), which initially would have comprised an earthern rampart and an outer ditch, which were later replaced by a stone wall. <4>
