Description

Tunnel, brick lined, which passes under the Queens Head to Rednal road-tramlines still in place. Connects the small sand pit on east side of road with warehouse alongside canal-trams were pulled by a donkey-hence the name-broken into June 1980-now sealed up at eastern end. A Tyler FI 1980 <1>

Tramway to S marked on 2nd edition Ordnance Survey mapping, connecting the site with the Sand Pit to the S (also marked) [PRN 31071]. <5>

Noted during a desk-based assessment and walkover survey in 1994, ahead of Phase 2 of the Montgomery Canal restoration. Noted as running beneath the Rednall road provided access from the sand pit to the canal wharfs. Unaffected by the proposed scheme. <6>
