Description
The close names in the parkland east of Tong Castle which are shown on a map of 1739 [<1>] indicate the possible former presence of a rabbit warren, perhaps contemporary with Tong Deer Park [PRN 01848]. The names include New Conigre, Far Conigre, Towners Conigre, Far Castle Conigre and Near Castle Conigre. The SMR GIS mapping shows the approximate extent of these closes, which itself would only represent an approximation of the area covered by the suggested warren. <2>
