Description
A map of 1739 [<1>], predating the rebuilding of Tong Castle and expansion of the park [see PRNs 07551, 13884], shows parkland only to the east of the early 18th century Tong Castle. To the west and south east of the castle itself are formal gardens, whilst two avenues of trees stretch north east (to the main road) and south east (across the road and to Tong Deer Park). At this date, the serpentine lakes are not present, but streams and water meadows mark their later position <2>
