In damaged condition according to Montgomery Canal archaeology assessment in 2003. <15>

Hoffman kiln chimney built in or around 1899 in red brick (English Garden wall bond) and held together by iron ties. The chimney is square in section, measuring 3.44 by 3.48m at the base and slightly tapering towards the top, with a slightly chamfered plinth and moulded capping. A round-arched stoke hole on the north side of the plinth links the chimney with the Hoffman Kiln to the north. The square brick chimney stands on a plinth 3.7m across, and rises to a height of around 42.5m <16>

In September 2006, Shropshire Archaeology Service led a community archaeology project at the Hoffman Kiln, Llanymynech, Shropshire on behalf of the Llanymynech Limeworks Heritage Project. Further understanding was gained of the operations of venting and draft control at the kiln, via the system of flues in the kiln walls. <17>

In 2001, a condition survey was undertaken of the chimney, as part of a development study of the Llanymynech Heritage Area. A large amount of vegetation growth was noted. <18>

A series of large scale drawings were made of the Hoffman chimney prior to consolidation as part of the development of the limeworks heritage area. <19>

Three lime kilns including a Hoffman Kiln, and associated features. The foundations and chimney of a Post Medieval lime kiln are visible on aerial photographs. Roughly coursed limestone rubble. High battered revetment wall with projection to left. Round-headed kiln with red brick arch to right; projection has large segmental-headed kiln with purple engineering brick to inner recessed arch. Platform to front on which Hoffman chimney (q.v.) also stands, has low retaining wall. Left kiln open to top. The Hoffman kiln was built in 1899 and ceased working in 1914. The other kilns are probably early 19th century vertical kilns standing to circa 6m high. A charging ramp stands on the North side.
SJ 2683 2124. The foundations and chimney of a Post Medieval lime kiln are visible on aerial photographs and have been mapped by RCHME's Marches Uplands Mapping Project. The lime kiln is probably associated with extensive quarrying and industrial activity to the north, along the southern edge of Llanymynech Hill. NMR SJ 2621/8-10 03-MAY-1992. <20>
