Summary

A complex of cropmarks, largely unintelligible but they may relate to deserted settlement at Brompton, or may be of prehistoric/Roman origin.

Description

An unintelligible array of cropmarks <1><2>

South of a field in which the earthworks of Brompton deserted settlement (PRN 00949) have been traced. Building debris was observed in this field in 1977 <3>

However, these cropmarks may be entirely unrelated to the medieval settlement. The fields to the South and West contain many prehistoric cropmarks <4>

These cropmark features were further observed during aerial survey in 2018, but their form is not readily intelligble. A possible parchmark is visible in this photograph which may represent the route of the Roman Road (PRN 00098) as it crosses this field. <5>
