Description
Between 1749 and 1784 the Rev. William Roberts was incumbent [at Whittington Rectory]. Being a man of some means and property he might have been responsible for the layout of the garden….William Walsham How described the rectory and garden during the 1850s complaining in lengthy terms about how overgrown the garden was…How mentioned the 'terrace' which may have been a walk along the top of the earth bank at the south end. The garden incorporated a large ditch (PRN 28854) which appears to have been an adapted feature rather than built feature.<1>
