Description

An area of wharf shown on the 1838 tithe map and 1880 OS 1:2500. <1>

A number of buildings are shown on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 1:2500, including a letter box (L.B) and weighing machine (W.M). <2>

The phase 2 restoration of the canal was monitored during 1995-1996. The clearing of vegetation from the side of the west bank of the canal south of the modern A5 road bridge revealed the remains of this wharf in the form of a wall lining the side of the canal. The wall was of red brick capped with a single course of Grinshill sandstone forming the wharf edge; a length of about 10m of wall was exposed. <3>
