Description

This field is identified as Sandyhole Field on the 1838 tithe map. Earthworks were noted in the SW of the field during walkover survey. Possibly associated with wharfage. <1>

The phase 2 restoration of the canal was monitored during 1995-1996. No trace of a built wharfage was seen when the canal was dredged and cut back in the location of the sand pit. <2>

This sand pit was identified during a site walkover undertaken of land at Queen's Head in 2011, as part of a desk-based assessment connected with proposals for the creation of a marina in this area. <3>
