Description
A possible medieval well was recorded during a watching brief carried out during restoration work in the north gatehouse tower of Whittington Castle. Its brick lining was possibly associated with its reuse from the 17th century, in association with the timber framed cottage constructed on the site. ->
-> The well is unrecorded on 19th century maps, suggesting it may have gone out of use by this time. It was sealed by a demolition deposit which contained the stem of a clay pipe stamped 'Charles Ward', a Broseley pipemaker. <1>
