Description

Fieldwork at Hopton Wafers, along the Hopton Brook identified two culverts with no obvious function, to the E of Hopton Court Bridge (SO 639 767). The line of these culverts coincides with a path shown on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map [<2>]. It is considered possible that this path dates to Humprhey Repton's landscaping of the grounds around Hopton Court, c.1812 (see PRN 07736). These culverts may have formed part of a garden walk, designed to frame particular views of the landscape during perambulation. <1>
