Description

In 1978, Ian Burrow received a letter from R.A. Rutland, Newarke Houses Museum, Leicester. Information was recently found in the museum on pottery from Sibdon Castle. The information was undated and its provenance unknown. ->

-> In 1945, a collection of wasters was recovered from a hole 'about 6ft deep' during groundworks at Sibdon Castle. A coin dated 1689 was also recovered. This was interpreted as a rubbish dump, and a similar plate was apparently found in the foor space at Sibdon Castle itself. ->

-> Original correspondance includes a photograph of Sibdon Castle (PRN 11360), as well as a photograph of a 'dish containing bone' [at least 4 veterbrae, fragments of long bone and pelvis] 'dug up at Sibdon' [although it is unclear exactly where]. The location of the finds is not recorded. <1><2>
