Description

Atcham WWII Airfield "dispersed site no 4". E edge of Attingham Deer Park, Norton Farm. Collection of largely timber pre-fabricated temporary buildings of which only platforms survive. Partly used as a school after the War, the site was deliberately dismantled and removed to nearby Uckington Heath airfield and incorporated into the industrial estate. <1>

Described briefly in management/condition survey in 2015. Other than the collapsed commanding officer’s quarters and a length of what may be original perimeter fencing, nothing significant remains on the surface; the NE/SW road that connects with Site 10 shows up as a crop mark. There are significant sub-surface remains which can be seen on aerial photographs. <2>

A watching brief was carried out on excavation for a pipeline in this area in 2017. No in situ archaeology associated with the dispersed site, apart from deposits of demolition material. <3>
