Description
Enormous, largely underground, operations block measuring some 50m long and 25m across constructed c.1941 to serve as headquarters for the West Midlands region of RAF fighter command and later by the USAF for their Eight air force. Contained briefing rooms, dormitories, offices, communications, decontamination and heating chambers, ventilation and filtration systems. Demolished in 1975 on orders of Gerald Noel. <1>
