Description

Park at Plaish in 1577. It appears on Saxton's map <1a><1b>

The exact area of the park is uncertain, however at SO 5179 9607 there is a Plaishpark Cottage and at SO 5203 9677 there is Plaish Park. OS Records comment 1977 <1>

Plaish is a fine, brick house of c.1580, with a court to its south. It was set within the south-eastern part of a park (present by 1577) which had a central lodge. The park was used as general pasture by 1671, and was inclosed 1675-6 (V.C.H. Shropshire 10). In 1914 an elaborate design for Renaissance-style gardens at Plaish was illustrated (W.H. Godfrey, Gardens in the Making [1914], fig. 8). There is no evidence it was ever executed <2>
